Prohibition of Trade Begins with the Adhan

Writer's picture: John StarlingJohn Starling

Q: When does the prohibition of trade during Friday prayer begin and end?

A: The prohibition begins with the second adhan (delivered from the pulpit), and not the first (the adhan of Uthman) and ends with the conclusion of the Friday prayer. After the prayer, all forms of trade and other activities become lawful again.

If the area has multiple masjids, the first adhan called marks the beginning of the prohibited time for all in the region regardless which masjid they attend.
